Throughout the pandemic, Maine Equal Justice and our partners have worked with hundreds of Mainers seeking unemployment benefits. Our new guide to the Basics of Unemployment in Maine is based on questions from people who called us for help, and includes updates on the law passed by the legislature in 2021. In the guide you will find answers to common questions such as:

The Maine legislature passed a bill this year to improve the unemployment program and those changes are included in the guide. One big change in the law is that you can earn more money each week and still qualify for partial unemployment benefits.
