
Youth Workers for Outside-of-School-Time (OST) Program in Van Buren for Elementary and Middle School Students
POSITION OPENING (Two Positions)
The OST Program operates Mon-Fri during the school year at the Van Buren District School. This position requires that staff be present 2 ½ hours daily on school days (2:30 – 5:00 PM) with extended hours on school holidays and vacation days. Hours are flexible, and applicants may choose to work from one to five 21/2-hour days per week on school days, with five-hour days (noon to 5:00) on early release and vacation days.
DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
a. Assisting the program director in developing, preparing, and evaluating activities that advance the positive social and emotional development of children and youth ages eight to fourteen (grades 3 to 8)
b. Leading a variety of program activities that contribute to positive social and emotional development as a member of the program team
c. Establishing positive and supportive relationships with children and youth participating in the program and serving as a role model
d. Assisting in collecting and tabulating program statistics
e. Assisting in planning and implementing goal-related field trips
This outside-of-school time (OST) program supplements the classroom and tutoring programs of MSAD#24 in grades three through eight and is coordinated with the MSAD#24 the school day program through MSAD#24 administrators and teachers
QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, AND SKILLS
Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required; a degree in education, youth development, or related field is a plus
Experience; Teaching or working with children/youth (e.g., childcare setting, volunteer or informal work with children and youth, mentoring, youth camp, etc.) required
Interpersonal Skills: Strong initiative, strong communication skills, ability to maintain confidentiality, open-minded and non-judgmental attitude, commitment to building a strong and efficient team with co-workers and children participating in the program.
Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver’s license is required. Certification in child care, education, or related fields is not required but is a plus.
Must successfully complete a Criminal History Check
Wages: dependent on experience and qualifications.
